The short answer

Less depends on the page count than most people think. A small business site can cost a few hundred dollars and a large custom build can pass $40,000. What moves the number is the platform, how many different page layouts you need, who writes the content and which features have to work on day one. With us, a website starts at $350 on Framer, $550 on Webflow and $650 fully custom.

Why do quotes for the same site differ so much?

Almost every month someone tells us they asked three studios to quote one website and the highest number was ten times the lowest. Usually nobody is lying. They are pricing different things. One quotes a template with your logo on it, another quotes custom design, and the third adds copywriting, photography and a year of support.

So before you compare the numbers, compare what each quote includes. If a quote does not say, ask.

What decides the price of a website?

When we scope a site, four things move the price far more than the number of pages. Twenty pages that share three layouts cost less than eight pages that all look different, because every new layout is designed and built once.

  • Page types: how many different layouts need designing
  • Content: whether you supply the words and photos, or we write and shoot them
  • Features: booking, accounts, search, calculators, more than one language
  • Connections: your CRM, payments, email tool or stock system

What are typical price ranges?

Prices swing a lot by country and by who does the work. As a rough guide, based on the quotes clients show us:

  • Site on a builder such as Framer or Webflow: a few hundred to a few thousand dollars
  • Custom built marketing site: about $1,000 to $20,000
  • Online store: about $500 to $40,000
  • Web application or portal: $25,000 and up

What does a website cost to run each year?

This is the part people forget. Plan for roughly $300 to $2,000 a year for hosting, the domain, the content system and any paid fonts or plugins. If you want someone to keep improving the site after launch, that is a separate monthly cost, and it is better to know about it before you start than after.

How do you avoid paying for the same site twice?

Most of the rebuilds we are asked to quote could have been avoided. The first site was cheap, the scope was vague and the owner could not change a headline without calling a developer. Three checks prevent most of that:

  • A fixed quote tied to a written scope
  • You own the domain, the design files and the code from day one
  • Your team can edit text and images without help
