The short answer
Before an app project, prepare five things: the one problem the app solves and for whom, the main flow written as steps, a list of must have and later features, your accounts (Apple developer, Google Play, a domain) and a budget range with a target date. With those ready, design can start in the first week.

What should you prepare?
- The problem: who has it, how they solve it today and why that is not good enough
- The main flow: the steps someone takes from opening the app to getting the job done
- Features in two lists: must have for the first version, and later
- Examples: two or three apps you like, and what you like about each
- Budget and date: a range and any date that cannot move, such as a launch event
Which accounts do you need?
- Apple Developer Program: $99 a year, in your company name, as listed by Apple in October 2026
- Google Play developer account: $25 once, as listed by Google in October 2026
- A domain and a business email, for the store listings and the privacy policy
Should you pick Flutter or React Native first?
No need. Bring the problem and the flow. The right choice depends on who will look after the app, whether it shares code with a website and how much custom motion the design needs, and that is decided on the first call.
